English:

The debutalbum of the English band Coldbones is boldly announced as being for fans of Explosions In The Sky and Russian Circles. You immediately draw the attention, but also set the bar quite high.

Just like Russian Circles, Coldbones display a somewhat heavier sound that occasionally tends toward metal. They combine shoegaze, post-rock and atmospheric soundscapes with (prog) metal. Especially in Where It All Began and To Whatever End, the comparison with Explosions In The Sky is also a bit of a limp. The rest of the songs are generally quieter and the comparison fits.

From a qualitative point of view, the three from Kent do indeed reach a high level. They even dared to turn this debut album into a concept album about key moments in the life of butterflies. From the Caspase enzyme responsible for the transformation in the cocoon to something of a life after death.

The production of the album is clear and the instruments are also nice in the mix. The only instruments you will hear are guitar, drum and bass. No other instruments or tricks were used. This analogue organic approach produces a nice warm sound that can also be raw.
